E-mail Activities in the Graceland Community
Here are examples of my service to
the Graceland community (not detailed in my
Professional Activities Report).
These are examples in which I get involved with students,
staff, and other faculty, often to alert and educate them about
about their use of the technology using e-mail.
- I reply to those who send e-mail containing long
lists of recipient addresses in the header to tell them
how to use BCC to suppress the list and thereby
be a more effective communicator.
- I have sent e-mail out to instruct others on how to send, attach,
and receive information using more universally accessible files
and formats to insure cross-platform communication.
- I have sent numerous e-mail suggestions to those
with web pages that don't look right, with detailed
repair instructions.
- I have reported strange happenings on the network to the system
administrator (including one hacker activity and the information
I was able to learn through my detective work).
- I have helped students install software and device drivers
for their equipment, and answered their questions about how
to fix them.
- I contacted numerous users of Macintoshes connected to
the network if their computer was open for easy attack by others
and I detailed for them how to fix the situation. This I
would discover with my own proactive checks.
